Startup School 2008
I’m attending Y Combinator’s Startup School at Stanford on April 19th. I probably have more startup experience than most of the other attendees, but I’m looking forward to listening to the stellar speakers, getting inspired, and learning a thing or two.

Bon Iver @ Nectar - 3/26/2008
I’m not one to review concerts, but Bon Iver was just too amazing to not mention. Imagine “For Emma, Forever Ago”, the album you love so much for, but replace the acoustic guitar with electric and baritone guitars, add some thumping bass drum, and turn it up. So very very good.
Photoshop Express (beta) →
Adobe’s web version of Photoshop looks pretty sweet. I’m a little worried for my friends over at Picnik, but I love Jonathan (Picnik’s CEO)’s quote: Hopefully, I am not smoking crack but I do think the marketplace is so efficient that we can compete based ultimately on quality and ‘winsomeness’ of the product (to use a very old fashion word).
Practical Common Lisp →
I learned Lisp a long time ago for a computer music class I took. I never got into it enough to appreciate it, besides that I’ve never forgotten the paren-matching command in vi :)
That said, I was programming in Perl a lot at the time, so the “weirdness” didn’t really bother me too much.
jhalickman: I decided to learn Lisp, Dan said that it will make other languages...
How to Survive in New York on 99 Cents →
One of my idiosyncracies, which Brooke is both endeared and annoyed by, is a compulsion to read all the circulars that come in the mail and newspaper. It probably stems back to my grandmother’s habit of ordering items from places like Fingerhut, but whatever it is, every Tuesday and Sunday, I insist on not only reading the circular for, say, Walgreens or Rite Aid, but also telling Brooke...

Photojojo » The Ten Tastiest Food Photography Tips →
The other day I decided to follow amit here on tumblr, and today: a photojojo about one of my longtime favorite activities: food photography. Coincidence?
Photographing my food has always been one of my idiosyncracies, although nowadays it is pretty widely accepted. I love the way food looks, but more important are the memories that certain foods can evoke. I remember someone looking through...
re: that last post
By the way, in regards to that last post: Yes, I have a new job. (Update: not at Amazon…)
Last week, after letting it slip to a few people that I was on the market, I had about a half-dozen bites. There’s a lot of cool stuff going on, and it was really hard making a decision, but ultimately I found a team and a role that I clicked perfectly with.
The product itself is a bit staid...
It's not what you've got, it's what you can do...
About two weeks ago, I decided it was time to start putting out feelers for what I was going to do post-eyejot. I was feeling a little burnt-out from startups, so one of the introductions I asked my network for was into a certain Seattle-based bookseller turned web services company.
My overall high-level goals at this point in my career are: 1. Work on something that touches a lot of people ...

Anyone?
onemoretimewithfeeling: Does anyone know of a good site to track a blogs’ traffic? I’m using Google Analytics, but I’m not really happy with it. I really like Clicky. It has a really nice UI, and a lot more in depth reports about what each visitor does on your site. Probably impractical for a large site (where google analytics excels) but perfect for a blog.
Eyejot Pro Plus →
One all nighter later, and I rolled out code for our new premium offering, which allows you to apply some of your own branding (a logo and color scheme for now) to your eyejot messages and public facing pages.
David will be announcing it, as well as some of our recent partnerships, at Under The Radar in about an hour. I’ll be taking a nap…

Do Not Reply. Seriously, Don't. →
Apparently people don’t read RFCs. In RFC 2606 (Reserved Top Level Domains), it clearly states that if you want to construct domain names that are “sure to be invalid and which it is obvious at a glance are invalid” you should use .invalid as the TLD. ( so foo@donotreply.invalid )
It is also one of the reasons IANA reserved “example.com” for use in documentation, and...

Seth Godin, I have and use a resume →
vasta: So when Seth Godin recently wrote his post entitled Why bother having a resume? and claimed that remarkable people don’t need resumes, I was ready to wholeheartedly agree. Since my first internet job in 1997, every job I’ve had has been via a referral. While I have updated my resume a few times along the way, for various reasons, it has never been asked of as anything but a...
