Ticketmaster Followups

A month or two ago, we went to a Sonics game. A  few weeks later I received a call from one of the marketing people at the team, asking if I’d be interested in coming to another game this year. She then said, “well, I have your email address, so i’ll send you some info in case you’re interested”.

Today I received an email from a local concert promoter, thanking me for attending the Ryan Adams show last month. I actually missed the show, but the cool thing about the email was that they included a link to Archive.org, where I could download a legal recording of it.

I hate being put on mailing lists as much as everyone else, but I actually appreciate these contacts. They were personal — in the case of the Sonics, the same lady who called sent me the email, from her own address, and it had personal touches like “I’m glad you and your wife enjoyed the game”, which I had mentioned on the call — and contained information I was actually interested in, not just badly-targeted, mass-produced “here are other sporting and music events in Seattle” newsletters.
