A “fancy” chair

Everyone is reblogging Chris Dixon’s list of “Things startups do and don’t need”. It’s a good list, and I agree with most of the items, though many really depend on the team, the product, and what city they are in.

One thing I disagree with is the lack of need for “fancy (aeron) chairs”. Maybe they aren’t a need per se, but I sit on my butt for 10+ hours a day, so I think a good place to park said butt is a worthwhile investment, and being comfortable really ups my productivity.

At home, I have an Aeron chair that was a gift back in 1999 from David Geller, my co-founder at Eyejot, when he was my boss at Altrec.com.  It has served me well, and is still in perfect shape 10 years later.  At work, I have a Steelcase Leap chair (that I bought myself a few years back) and I actually prefer that to the Aeron. I highly recommend it.

p.s. I also sleep on a nice mattress.
