Getting Fit
I didn’t start off 2009 with a goal to lose weight or get to any certain fitness level, I just wanted to feel better. I didn’t set out with a plan or weight target but with a new year as a starting point and a commitment to staying open to where I could go with my fitness. Several people have asked me how I did it so I wanted to share a few things I did for those looking to improve their health in the new year.
Read Bryce’s entire post (he lost 50 lbs last year!)
Since Ruby was born, and Brooke went back to work, I’ve been to the gym maybe twice. I haven’t put on too much weight, but I’m definitely not feeling as fit as I’ve been in the past. I could probably stand to lose 20+ pounds, and that will hopefully be a side effect of exercise, but my two concrete goals for the year are:
- Go to the gym at least twice a week
- Ride my bike at least 1200 miles
The first goal has proven hard due to conflicting schedules, and just wanting to just hang out with Ruby in the morning, so that’s going to need some figuring out, but mornings are the only workout schedule I’ve ever been able to stick to, so that’s what I’m shooting for.
The second goal is the one I’m really looking forward to. We used to ride bikes a lot in college, and I loved it, but I’ve ridden a total of maybe 10 miles in the past few years. The Chilly Hilly and the STP are two organized rides I’ll definitely do, but once the weather dries up a little, I’m looking forward to putting down some miles on my own.
So, to take Bryce’s advice, I’m sharing these goals, and will post updates this year, to hold myself accountable.
