Thoughts from Startup School

I had a great time at Startup School 2008 yesterday. It was inspiring, entertaining, and educational.

Whenever I listen to people speak, my initial thought is “Well, that’s just common sense”; but since then, in reading coverage of the day and thinking back, there were a few points that I especially appreciated and are worth republishing.

  • Michael Arrington - Constant snarkiness isn’t good for you or for the community, don’t do it!
  • Jeff Bezos - Focus on your product and customers versus reacting to your competitors (and I was happy to finally hear his trademark VLL in person!)
  • Paul Buchheit - Listen, Decode, Interpret, Understand
  • Paul Graham - Don’t just ‘not be evil’, Be Good!
  • Peter Norvig - Data is more flexible than code.
