Sasquatch Wrapup
We had a great time at Sasquatch this weekend. With multiple stages, it sometimes felt like everyone we wanted to see overlapped with one another, and I was sad to miss a bunch of acts, but I was really pleased with all of the performances we caught.
Highlights
All of the mainstage acts sounded excellent. My votes for best performance go to Tegan & Sara and Death Cab, but really, there weren’t many disappointments. Besides a couple small glitches on the side stages, the sound was great for all of the acts.
- Vince Mira - This guy was awesome. I’ll post a track in the next day or so, but it was amazing watching this baby-faced 16 year old come out and belt-out the deepest voice imaginable, with an uncanny likeness to Johnny Cash.
- Cave B Inn - We camped at the Gorge Campground, which was fun, but it was nice waking up early and walking a few miles down the road for breakfast at the Cave B Inn, a gorgeous (no pun intended) hotel adjacent to the amphitheater. The food was excellent, as were the hot water and flushing toilets!
- Sunday’s Weather - You couldn’t have asked for a better day. Everyone was worried when it started out rainy, but it got clear and warm, and stayed that way all evening.
Lowlights
- A cold and wet the first night, which put a bit of a damper on R.E.M.
- Not paying enough attention to where in the massive campground we were staying, then spending over an hour in the pitch black and rain trying to find our site on the first night.
- $11 per can of Pabst - although there really was nothing better during the hot afternoons.
- The Kooks - I was really excited to see these guys, but they were more than 30 minutes late (in a 60 minute slot!), and by the time they got started, most of the crowd had given up.
- My first ever speeding ticket (airplane speed trap). I went nearly 15 years without any traffic violations, but now have gotten two in the past year!
